Regulator Warning - NSW Workers Compensation Insurance

The State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA) will be conducting a review of all businesses in NSW that may need a workers' compensation policy. Any business identified as not having a current workers' compensation policy could be liable to pay double the amount of the policy premium for the last five years.

It is compulsory for all employers in NSW. An employer is any person or business entity that employs or hires workers on a full time, part time or casual basis under an oral or written contract of service or training contract. This includes employing a babysitter or nanny as an employer or employing family members like your spouse or children.

If you do not have a current policy, you will need to purchase a policy by contacting icare on 13 44 22 or visit https://www.sira.nsw.gov.au/insurance-coverage/workers-compensationinsurance/how-to-get-workers-compensation-insurance
